Tips For Taking The Perfect Picture To Enter Into The Gerber Baby Contest

By Peter Howard

The Gerber Baby has been a symbol of good health, innocence, and optimism for almost one hundred years. The searches they still conduct, to find the best examples of these qualities, are only gaining in popularity. The winning youngster gets to appear in ads and receives a substantial financial award. Not every child is eligible however, and if you think you might have the Gerber baby contest winner, there are some things you should know.

The first thing you should do is thoroughly read the rules and regulations regarding the search. You have to make sure your youngster actually qualifies before going to the trouble of taking a series of special photographs. The company probably throws out thousands of entries because the parent didn't take the time to read the directions.

One of the principal concepts of the search is to find a naturally appealing child. This means that you can't hire a professional photographer to set up an elaborate photo shoot and then send in the results of the session. The company isn't looking for pictures that have been computer enhanced either. Only children between the ages of a day and forty-eight months are eligible.

Along the same lines, many parents are tempted to add just a touch of lip gloss or blush to their child's face to make cheekbones stand out or pouting lips more prominent. Judges have already seen thousands of these kinds of pictures, and they are not what wins contests. Your youngster's natural glow will have more value for the company than artificial enhancements. It is sometimes hard to get a cute smile from an infant, but toddlers are full of grins and expressions that make for wonderful photographs.

The judges might not allow professional photography, but the photos that get to the finals will show children in good light. You don't have to go out and buy klieg lights, but sitting your child near a sunny window can be effective. Dark or murky pictures aren't going to allow the judges to really see what the child looks like, and too much light will just wash out all your child's beautiful features.

Taking pictures outside is one way to get good light, and to get interesting photographs. If your child is old enough, taking photos in the midst of flowers, with a pet, or with a toy can be very effective. This is a great way to add extra color to your pictures, which will make them more interesting.

Even if your child is an infant, it will probably take some time and effort to get a really good picture. Keeping your camera handy will make it easier to shoot your youngster at unexpected moments. Sometimes these are the most effective entries. Cameras with active child settings make it possible for you to get clear shots even when your little one is in motion.

Your child may never become a Gerber baby even with great looks and personality. You will enjoy the time spent taking photos and experimenting with locations and settings however. In the end you will have captured at time in your child's life that will never be again.
